NFC, short for Near Field Communication, is a short range wireless communication protocol that is nowadays mostly used at contactless payment terminals. The NFC Forum is also working on a wireless charging solution that will let you charge your devices via NFC chips instead of dedicated wireless coils. However, smartphone manufacturers often drop NFC support on their phones—particularly on those sold in China and India—due to the fact that some countries primarily use scannable QR codes as the preferred mode for contactless payments. Phones like the OnePlus 8 Pro don’t support NFC SIMs even though the device is equipped with an NFC chip. Luckily, you can enable support for this feature with a simple mod.
XDA Member timlu85 has come up with a Magisk Module that can instantly enable NFC-SIM support on any regional variant of the OnePlus 8 Pro. The module systemlessly hooks into the predefined OEM feature list so that the phone can detect the NFC portion of such SIMs. It also takes care of patching the default NFC HAL configuration provided by the vendor (NXP Semiconductors). Being a universal mod, it can be installed on top of every version of OxygenOS for the OnePlus 8 Pro.
After installing the module, you have to reboot your phone and re-enable the NFC Toggle to force the OS to reload the modified configuration data. The current version of the module for the OnePlus 8 Pro is tested against NFC SIMs from Chunghwa Telecom, although it should be compatible with other already-activated NFC SIMs as well.

The concept of this mod isn’t completely new, because the module mentioned above is based on a similar mod for the OnePlus 6T created by the same user. The actual idea behind this patch dates back to 2017 when XDA Senior Member snowwolf725 demonstrated a way to enable NFC-SIM support on the OnePlus 3/3T and the OnePlus 5.
