Nexus Sailfish Specs Surface on GFXBench

As we get closer to another Nexus release, the puzzle pieces seemingly can’t stop falling from the sky for us to salivate every calendar day until the big release. We’ve seen solid specs rumors, and some have been backed up by the leaked build.prop, but there is still more to find out and confirm.

GFXBench is a popular benchmark with a database that regularly hosts the scores and specs of unreleased devices. This isn’t to say that these are 100% reliable, but we’ve seen numerous cases where the information the entries revealed were solid. It was only a matter of time before a Nexus showed up in there, and this new entry could very well be it.

The GFXBench listing confirms the 1080p resolution and 5-inch screen size of the device, the biggest differentiating factor between the two upcoming Nexus phones. It also mentions the Snapdragon 820 with the performance cluster clocked at 2.1 GHz, and the second cluster clocked at 1.6 GHz. When the build.prop leak surfaced, we noted that the listed model number in the file could denote the 821 despite being identical to that of the 820, given that back in 2014 the Snapdragon 801 had taken the same one as the 800. But the listed frequency of the lower-clocked cluster seems to go against what we know of the Snapdragon 821 so far, so this specific spec is still up in the air and arguably edging towards the 820.

We also find 4GB of RAM, an 8MP front camera and 12MP rear camera, and 32GB of storage. It also discards the possibility of a dual SIM setup, but nobody really expected that feature. All of this is consistent with previous leaks, so hopefully it does mean we are looking at the official spec sheet of the smaller Nexus.

The rumored specs seem to be similar across both upcoming Nexus phones, which is a very good prospect for those that enjoy smaller phones and felt betrayed by the Nexus 5X’s hardware. Moreover, the design language is also said to be identical across both phones this time. The smaller Nexus might very well be the phone to get for those looking for a smaller screen in today’s market.
