ZTE Introduces ZMax Pro — 6-inch 1080p, Snapdragon 617, 3,400mAh Battery for $99

Today, ZTE announced a competitor for the highest spec’d smartphone for less than $100. They unveiled the ZMax Pro for Metro PCS, a phablet with a 6-inch, 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor with 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera, USB Type-C port, a sizable 3,400 mAh battery, and fingerprint scanner.

Specs like this can currently only be found on other devices that go for around twice the price. This isn’t the first time ZTE has tried to set a new standard, though, as they launched the ZTE ZMAX for $200 in 2014, which was the first time in the U.S. that a phone with arguably-packed specs costed that much. Then in 2015, ZTE continued the trend of affordable flagships by improving upon the ZMAX and dropping the price even further with the ZMAX 2 for $149.

The ZTE ZMax Pro is running ZTE’s version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and according to ZTE will launch some time in August. According to MetroPCS, interested customers can place pre-orders online starting today.

The ZTE ZMax Pro further reinforces the notion it’s possible to have a phone filled with decent specs, and can still be offered at an extremely low price range. This is no flagship, but it’s interesting to see the low-end already adopt what we considered mid-range specs just a few months ago.
