Honor Launch the V8, Use Same Dual-Cameras as Huawei P9

Huawei’s brand Honor has announced their latest addition to their lineup, continuing with the great value for money they have come to be known for with a starting price of just $352. George Zhao president of Honor took to the stage to introduce the device featuring the same dual-camera set up as the Huawei P9 albeit without the Leica branding and coming in 2 variants.

The Honor V8 will also come with a 5.7-inch IPS display, which with a 2K resolution and a 515 PPI is the first time a Huawei device has come with a 2K resolution; the cheaper variant will ship with a lower FHD resolution. Powering it all is a Kirin 950 SoC the same found in the Huawei Mate 8 in the cheaper model and a Kirin 955 as found in the Huawei P9 in the more expensive option, to compliment them they have also packed in an impressive 4GB of DDR4 RAM. It will come with two storage options, 32 and 64GB and feature micro SD up to 128 GB. All of this rests atop a 3500mAh battery that allows for fast charging at 9v / 2A.

The device runs the latest version of EMUI 4.1/Android 6 which will support Huawei’s new mobile payment option Huawei Pay which gives indication to the presence of NFC in the device. Of course, the star of the show here are the dual rear cameras using 12MP sensors and the same f/2.2 aperture, if these are indeed the same cameras then one will be monochromatic and on RGB. The front camera is 8MP.

The pricing appears to follow Honor’s usually bang-for-buck structure with the FHD variant setting you back just $380, while the 2K/64GB variant will cost $429. The honor V8 will go on sale on May 17th.
