U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission had accused Qualcomm of giving gifts (like event tickets, paid travel) and even hiring the children and/or friends of employees of state-owned entities/ministries in China. This violates the ethical conduct and compliance with all laws and regulations as governed by the SEC and it caused them to launch an investigation. To settle this, Qualcomm has agreed to pay a $7.5 million fine.
