HTC Execs Strongly Deny Asustek Acquisition Rumors

At the end of 2014, by the time all OEMs had shown off their flagships for the year, Android’s front-running manufacturer, Samsung, was looking at a dip in sales with smaller OEMs taking a turn for the better. HTC in particular had a remarkable year, breaking free of the shackles that were causing the Taiwanese OEM to sink, and even managing to cut slender profits in the first quarter of 2015.

However, the momentum built up after the widely successful One M8 didn’t continue with this year’s flagship, the One M9, which failed to meet expectations and now threatens to cast HTC back into the tumultuous days of net losses. Last week, rumors surfaced that Asustek, one of the world’s largest laptop manufacturer that has also been gaining ground in Android as of late thanks to its competitive Zenfone series, was planning to acquire HTC Corp in lieu of it’s relatively miserable year, and in an indignant response released today, the HTC board has published an announcement stating:

“We strongly deny the news. We didn’t contact Asusteck and will not consider the acquisition. As an international brand, HTC will continue to design world-class innovative smart devices through its pursuit of brilliance brand promise.”

What do you think about the Asustek-HTC saga? Do you think HTC’s purported ‘hero’ device rumored for an October launch can save the company? Let us know in the comments below!
