Google Pixel Watch battery and connectivity details emerge

We’ve seen quite a bit of the Google Pixel Watch over the past couple of weeks. First, it was a Pixel Watch render, then live photos of the device. Although its appearance may no longer be a mystery, there are still a lot of unanswered questions about the device. If a source is to be believed, new information has surfaced, giving us new details about the Google Pixel Watch.

According to the folks at 9to5Google, the unannounced Wear OS device will pack a 300 mAh battery. This is great to know, but there are just too many factors involved that prevent us from knowing what really counts, which is how long the Pixel Watch will last. But, you have to give it to them for trying to figure it out. The site extensively compared the Pixel Watch’s reported 300 mAh battery and found similarities with a few models, namely the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, the Fossil Gen 6, and Skagen’s Faster Gen 6.

Utilizing the data, they speculated that the Pixel Watch could last anywhere from 20 to 48 hours. This is, of course, quite a large spread. But again, it will be hard to know without getting all of the details and even then, this is a device that could get better with time. Expanding its capabilities through software optimizations and updates. In addition to the battery, the source also confirmed that there would be cellular connectivity.

While it is unknown when the Google Pixel Watch will be announced, many speculate that it could arrive during the Google I/O 2022 developer conference. The conference, which takes place on May 11 and May 12 could play host to Google’s new wearable. Hopefully, the smartwatch will emerge during the event, priced to compete. Luckily, we won’t have to wait long as the event is only a couple of weeks away.

POCO’s latest budget phone packs MediaTek Dimensity 700, a 50MP camera and a 5,000mAh battery

Hot on the heels of the POCO F4 GT announcement, POCO is back again with a new smartphone launch. The company has just unveiled the POCO M4 5G in India. The latest offering is aimed at budget-conscious buyers and offers a solid hardware package at an affordable price.

The POCO M4 5G is essentially a rebadged version of the Redmi 10 5G, save for the tweaked design and the front camera. It features an eye-catching two-tone design that we have seen on a few other POCO phones as well. The front of the phone is dominated by a 6.58-inch LCD FHD+ panel which offers a 90Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. Under the hood, the phone is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 SoC, coupled with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage. On the back, there’s a dual-camera setup comprising a 50MP main shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is a 8MP shooter, which is an upgrade over the Redmi 10 5G’s 5MP camera.

While the POCO M4 5G packs the same 5,000mAh battery as its more powerful brother POCO M4 Pro, its charging speed tops out at 18W. Other highlights of the phone include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, IP52 rating, Bluetooth 5.1, and a microSD card slot. It runs Android 12 out of the box with MIUI 13 on top.

The POCO M4 Pro is priced at ₹12,999 for the base model and ₹14,999 for the 6GB/128GB model. It will go on sale on May 5 via Flipkart.

OnePlus 10R / Ace

The OnePlus 10R and OnePlus Ace are the same phones. The former is the global model, while the latter is China-exclusive. As far as the hardware is concerned, both phones pack a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, MediaTek Dimensity 8100 MAX, a 50MP + 8MP + 2MP camera setup, and a 4,500mAh battery with up to 150W fast charging. However, the software is one area where both phones differ. While the OnePlus 10R runs Android 12 with OxygenOS 12, the OnePlus Ace runs ColorOS 12.1.

The Realme GT Neo 3 is the newest flagship from the BBK-owned company, offering a solid hardware package at a competitive price. Originally launched in China, the phone is set to make its debut in India on April 29. Except for the paint job and software, the Realme GT Neo 3 is identical to the OnePlus 10R/OnePlus Ace. It has the same 6.7-inch AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 8100 MAX chipset, identical triple camera system, and a 4,500mAh battery with 80W/150W fast charging support.

Realme brings the affordable Realme Pad Mini & Buds Q2s to the Indian market

Realme lifted the covers off its first 150W fast charging phone, the Realme GT Neo 3, in India today. Along with the affordable flagship, the company has also launched the Realme Pad Mini and the Realme Buds Q2s in the region. If you’re in the market for a budget-friendly tablet or TWS earbuds, here’s everything you need to know about Realme’s latest offerings.

Realme Pad Mini

The Realme Pad Mini is an entry-level Android tablet geared towards students and price-conscious buyers. It features an 8.7-inch LCD with chunky bezels on the top and bottom, and a 1340×800 resolution. On the inside, it packs a Unisoc T616 octa-core processor, paired with up to 4G RAM and 64GB storage.

In the camera department, the Realme Pad Mini offers an 8MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP selfie shooter. The tablet is backed by a 6,400mAh battery with 18W wired fast charging support. Other noteworthy features include dual-band Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 5.0, a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and dual speakers.

Realme GT Neo 3’s insane 150W fast-charging support sets it apart from other affordable flagships on the market. It’s among the first production devices to feature such blazing fast charging capabilities, which can get the 4,500mAh battery from 0-50% in about 5 minutes. Even the 80W variant is pretty capable in that regard, and you can get it from 0-100% in around 32 minutes with the included charger.

As mentioned earlier, the Realme GT Neo 3 doesn’t feature a Qualcomm chipset like its predecessor. Instead, it packs a MediaTek Dimensity 8100 5G SoC paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The phone features a larger 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display that refreshes at 120Hz and has a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. Google Translate gets a new “Translate Quick Actions” widget with Material You design

After years of neglect, home screen widgets finally received a big facelift in Android 12. The new widgets follow Material You guidelines and are more useful, responsive, and interactive. Many popular Google apps such as Gmail, YouTube Music, Google Drive, and Maps have already received refreshed home screen widgets. Now one more Google app is getting a widget refresh: Google Translate.

When the Google Translate app received its big Material You redesign late last year, it didn’t bring any update to the home screen widget. But that’s finally changing as Google has started rolling out a revamped Google Translate widget.

The previous widget was quite basic in nature and only offered a quick 1×1 shortcut that you can link to open either the text, camera, conversation, or write mode activity. The new Translate Quick Actions widget is more capable and useful, offering shortcuts to voice translation, conversation, transcribe, and camera mode.

The top row displays the currently set language pairing, while a clipboard shortcut appears on the right side. The number of shortcuts changes dynamically as you resize the widget; at max, you can display up to four quick actions. On devices running Android 12, the widget fully supports Dynamic Color theming and takes on the dominant color of your wallpaper.

The new Translate Quick Actions widget hasn’t rolled out widely. It wasn’t available on my Android 12 phone with Google Translate v6.35. Google’s tweet doesn’t reveal much about exact availability. In any case, it shouldn’t be too long before the new widget starts rolling out to everyone.

Interestingly, Google Translate is also working on a “Saved Translations” widget (h/t Mishaal Rahmaan), though it hasn’t rolled out to users yet.

Huawei Band 7 launches in China with a 1.47-inch AMOLED display

At Huawei’s recent event, the firm announced its latest entry in its foldable phone lineup the Mate Xs 2. During the event, the company also announced two new wearables, the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro and the Huawei Band 7. There’s a lot to unpack about the latter, so let’s get started.

The Huawei Band originally made its debut in 2016, offering consumers an affordable fitness tracking solution. Over the years, the Band line has slowly evolved, adding notable features, while still maintaining a reasonable price point. The Band 7 is no exception, offering more than its predecessor, in an even more svelte package.

The Huawei Band 7 features a 1.47-inch AMOLED display and weighs in at just under 16g. The overall package is quite compact, measuring 44.35mm x 26mm, and being only 9.9mm thick. This is 1mm thinner than the previous model. When it comes to aesthetics, there are four different colors and over 8000 watch faces to choose from. As far as battery life goes, you’re looking at about two weeks or around ten days under heavy use. Luckily, if you ever find yourself running out of battery, a quick five-minute charge will yield you two days of battery life.

The Band 7 will offer an impressive 96 different sports it can track, making use of the device’s accelerometer and gyroscope sensor. As for heart rate monitoring, Huawei’s own TruSeen 4.0 technology will take the reins, delivering accurate data in real-time.

There are two different versions of the Band 7, a standard model and an NFC variant that will allow you to make payments with compatible services and terminals. At a base price of ¥269 (~$40 USD), this could be an excellent solution for those in the market for fitness tracking with robust options. If you want to get your hands on these devices, it is now available for pre-order in China from select retailers. It is currently unknown whether the Huawei Band 7 will be available outside of China.
