Bootloader Unlock Available for the ZTE Axon 7 and Axon Pro (US Variants)

What’s the best phone in the market right now you ask? Depending on who you ask this question to, the answer could range from the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to the OnePlus 3 to the HTC 10 to the ZTE Axon 7 to something else entirely. And that is perfectly alright, as each of those phones have their own strengths and weaknesses, and they satisfy different needs for different people.

But if you were looking to buy an affordable flagship that gives phones twice the price a run for their money, the choice narrows down to two possible choices right now: the OnePlus 3 and the ZTE Axon 7. The OnePlus 3 becomes the more obvious choice to those who wish to tinker with their devices and would like to retain their warranty while they are at it. The Axons 7 is not the best in that space, but ZTE plans to change that. At least to an extent.

After popular opinion on ZTE’s community forums, the company has made the bootloader on the Axon 7 and the Axon Pro unlockable. Yes, the devices now have been confirmed to have officially unlocked bootloaders,

There are a few caveats to these though. Firstly, this applies only to the US versions of the Axon 7 and the Axon Pro. Next, unlocking the bootloader does void your warranty, and ZTE stresses on this point. The next caveat, which is a minor one, is that you will have to sign up for the ZTE Z-Community and then request a bootloader unlock. ZTE is asking for 72 business hours for turnaround of your request, so the unlock isn’t immediate.

If a void warranty does not scare you, head on over to ZTE’s Z-Community forums, navigate to the Developer Lounge for the Axon series and fill in the unlock request form. Speaking of forums and developers and all the things that you can do with an unlocked bootloader, head on over to the XDA device forums for the ZTE Axon 7 and the ZTE Axon Pro.

What are your thoughts on this move by ZTE? Would you like the bootloader unlock be extended to other regions as well? Let us know in the comments below!
